Book Name: Red Queen (#1)

Author: Victoria Aveyard

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Mare’s world is divided into two parts; Reds (Red blood) and Silvers (Silver blood). Reds are ordinary people, Silver’s however live lavish lives; Along with luxuries they have special-powers that make them very different and superior from Reds. Mare’s life changes when she is invited to be a servant for silvers. All she can think of how her earnings will support her family. Her first day at work is an event hosted by the silver royal family, a betrothal ceremony where (silver) princess show off their abilities from various high houses, two best princesses would be chosen for the two princes, Cal and Maven. During the fancy event, Mare accidently falls over some deathly laser. Instead of being burnt to death she feels more alive and radiates purple lightening, shocking all silvers. ‘Reds aren’t supposed to have powers, they are supposed to be ordinary and below us’. In order to keep the kingdom and the order (Reds are below silvers) intact the Royal family lies to their own people. Covering up the story by saying she is a long lost daughter of some martyred silver soldier, and is now betrothed to one the prince, Maven. In the midst of this drama there is a war coming. A group of people who call themselves ‘Scarlet guards’; they claim to want equality between reds and silvers and in order to get this they might even declare war on the silvers. Mare undoubtedly joins it, but keeping it secret is hard, trusting the wrong person can lead to death. Anyone can betray anyone. Mare plays a deadly game; can she choose the right people to trust?

The hype about this book was totally understandable! I loved it a lot! Although I was a bit confused in the beginning whether Mare was a girl or guy 😛 But overall the book is well written, the plot, the betrayal was amazing. I shipped Mare and Cal from the beginning but oh well.. I can’t wait to continue the series to see how the story turns out. I definitely see myself recommending this book to anyone who loves fantasy/fiction books.
